Professional Experience

Fabián is an expert in international environmental and sustainability law with 20 years of experience. He is the author of some of the most influential publications in this field, which have positioned him as a leading reference in Colombia and Latin America.

He has advised the Colombian Government, serving, among other roles, as International Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, consultant to international organizations, and expert witness before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. He also served as a Legal Intern at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

Fabián is a tenured professor in the Department of Economic Law at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Director of the Center for Studies in Law and Sustainability, and head of the Ministry of Science top-ranked Research Group in Economic Law. He is a member of several distinguished professional societies, including the Colombian Academy of International Law and the Latin American and Caribbean Society of International Law of the Sea.

He is recognized as one of Colombia’s most influential voices in international affairs, foreign policy, and international law. His academic record includes 35 indexed publications in top-tier journals, as well as books and book chapters that have made a significant impact in his field. His most recent books are Standing for Nature (Island Press, 2025) and Sustainability and Law (Tirant lo Blanch – Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, 2025).
